New Nikon Coolpix cameras announced

Nikon Coolpix P510

The Nikon P510 is arguably the stand-out model of the new line-up, thanks to its whopping 42x optical zoom and 16-megapixel backlit sensor. For capturing every last detail, even at long distances, the P510 will reach a 1000mm super-telephoto focal length, and shrink down to 24mm. Built-in GPS will automatically geotag your photos, and its HDMI port means you can easily share your photos with family and friends on your HD TV.

Key features: 42x zoom, 16 megapixels, 1080p video capture at up to 120fps, tiltable screen, built-in GPS

Nikon Coolpix L810

While not quite matching up to the P510's zooming potential, the Coolpix L810 does offer an impressive 26x extreme wide-angle optical zoom lens, with a 22.5-585mm range. There's a well-placed side control for quick and smooth zooming and 720p filming capability, all conveniently powered by AA batteries and available in black, blue, red and bronze.

Key features: 26x zoom, 16 megapixels, 720p video capture, AA battery powered

Nikon Coolpix L310

A high spec camera, the L310 offers a 21x wide-angle zoom (25-525mm), 14 megapixel sensor and 720p HD video recording, alongside easy-to-use auto controls. You'll get 17 scene modes to choose from to suit your surroundings, or there's a Scene Auto Selector, that'll choose the best one for you. It also features a dedicated movie record button for quick one-click recording.

Key features: 14 megapixels, 21x zoom, one-click 720p HD video recording, 3-inch LCD screen

Nikon Coolpix S9300

The S9300 is a fairly slimline compact (30.6mm at its widest) which still manages to pack in an 18x optical zoom. It's the new flagship product in Nikon's S-series of Coolpix cameras (the S stands for 'style', shorthand for easy-to-use point-and-shoot snappers). A back-illuminated 16-megapixel CMOS image sensor takes care of imaging duties and the camera comes in four colours: red, silver, black and blue.

Key features: 18x optical zoom, 16-megapixel sensor, full HD video, three-inch screen, GPS

Nikon Coolpix P310

The P310 is the successor to Nikon's Coolpix P300. The main upgrade is a boost in megapixels, from 12.2 to 16. P310 offers a number of manual controls via a mode dial on the top, enabling the user to choose from program, shutter priority, aperture priority and full manual modes. You can shoot up to five full-resolution shots at six frames per second (fps) or up to 30 full-resolution shots at one fps.

Key features: 4.2x optical zoom, 16-megpixel sensor, full HD video, three-inch screen

Nikon Coolpix S6300

The new Coolpix S6300 has a back-illuminated 16-megapixel CMOS image sensor. It also offers full HD video recording but has a shorter optical zoom than the S9300 - 10x rather than 18x. There's also a 3D shooting mode that can be used with 3D-capable TVs and computers. It comes in three colours: black, red and blue.

Key features: 10x optical zoom, 16-megapixel sensor, full HD video, 2.7-inch screen

Nikon Coolpix S30

Nikon's new entry-level S-series camera is the S30, a sub-£100 snapper with a 10-megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom and 2.7-inch screen. It's being pitched as a family-friendly camera, with waterproofing and shockproofing keeping it safe from the kids and large buttons and simple menus making it useable by technophobic grandparents. There are four colours to choose from: white, black, pink and blue.

Key features: 3x optical zoom, 10-megapixel sensor, 720p video recording, 2.7-inch screen

Nikon Coolpix L25

The 10-megapixel Coolpix L25 comes with simple controls and an Easy Auto mode that optimizes all your camera settings for you, depending on your surroundings. It also features a 5x wide-angle zoom, three-inch screen and is available in a choice of silver, black, red and white.

Key features: 10 megapixels, 5x wide-angel zoom, 3-inch LCD screen

Nikon Coolpix L26

The Coolpix L26 is aimed at photography amateurs, but offers slightly higher specs for a touch more money. You'll get 16 megapixels, one-touch 720p video recording and the same Easy Auto mode as the L25 to get the best pictures with minimal effort. It'll be available in silver, black and red.

Key features: 16 megapixels, 720p HD video recording, 3-inch LCD screen, 5x wide-angle zoom
