Instagram for Android released, now available

Instagram for Android has been released and is now available at Google Play store for free, as promised earlier via an early sign-up page and by submitting to them the customer’s email address.  It is available with the free app promising the same Instagram experience when compared to the iOS app.

“We’ve been working tirelessly to make this new Android app a first-class mobile photo-sharing experience. We’ve been meticulous about translating the Instagram experience to the Android platform.” A statement at Instagram.com.

“With the release of Instagram for Android, we’re one step closer to making that goal a reality. We’re so excited to welcome Android users to what has become an inspiring and thriving community.” The statement added, noting that there are now over 30 million Instagram users worldwide.

Instagram CEO and co-founder Kevin Systrom, who confirmed last December during the LeWeb conference that the service will be available for Android users, said during the SXSW Interactive conference last March that there were more than 27 million Instagram registered users that time.

Meanwhile, Instagram also launched a Q&A page on their official website dedicated to Android users, stressing out that Instagram for Android can be run on any camera phone with Android 2.2 or above with support for OpenGL ES 2.
