A nearly completed skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus Bataar dinosaur, an Asian cousin of T-Rex was sold for more than $1 million at Heritage Auctions in New York.

The Tyrannosaurus skeleton, which stands 8 feet (2.4 meters) high and measures about 24 feet (7.3 meters) long, was sold for $1,052,500, despite dispute over the legality of the sale. The sale of the said dinosaur skeleton was approved under a resolution of a Texas state court, with Mongolian President Elbegdorj Tsakhia claiming that the fossil, which was unearthed in Gobi Desert, has been taken out of his country illegally.

“We respect the various opinions on the subject and wish to protect the legal rights of all parties involved. We have legal assurances from our reputable consignors that the specimen was obtained legally.” Heritage Auctions President Greg Rohan was quoted.
“As far as we know, the Mongolian government has not produced any evidence that the piece originated in its territory, but the final determination will be up to the American legal system.” Rohan added, with the body of the auctioned skeleton having 75% complete and the skull is 80%.
Apparently, the sale of this rare Tyrannosaurus skeleton, earlier expected to fetch between $950,000 and $1,500,000, marked the first time where a fully prepared Tyrannosaur has been made sold at public auction.
