Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Samsung Galaxy Note Specs and Features Comparison

Both Galaxy S3 i9300 and Galaxy Note are flagship devices from Samsung. You might be confused that which phone from these two you should buy. In order to make your buying decision easier, we’ve come up with the detailed comparison chart based on specs and features of Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note.

Processor

Galaxy S3 has faster quad-core Exynos 1.4GHz Cortex-A9 processor whereas Galaxy Note has dual-core Exynos 1.4GHz Cortex-A9 processor. Both have the same GPU. The difference in speed wouldn’t be much noticeable for average users. Both phones will run most of the apps smoothly.

Screen Size and Resolution

Purpose of Galaxy Note is to serve as both Tablet and Phone. That is why it’s also known as Phablet. Samsung Galaxy S3 has a 4.8 inch screen whereas Note has a big 5.3 inch screen. Both feature Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. Note has 1280 x 800 pixels resolution while SIII has 1280 x 720 resolution. This small difference in resolution is because of difference in screen size.

RAM and Storage Capacity

S III has one big advantage over Note. You can expand the storage capacity of S3 up to 64GB and it also has 50GB Dropbox capacity whereas in Note you can expand it up to 32GB. Both have same 1GB RAM.

Design, Weight and Dimensions

The shape and size of Note makes it difficult to hold in your hands as compared to the Samsung Galaxy S III. The former measures 146.9 x 83 x 9.7 mm with 178g weight whereas the later measures 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm with 133g weight. Because of huge screen size, heavy weight and larger dimension, you might feel a little awkward while using Galaxy Note.

Camera

There isn’t much difference in Camera of both phones. Both have 8MP rear camera with the ability to record 1080p. The small difference is in the front Camera. Note has 2MP front Camera while Samsung Galaxy S III has 1.9MP front Camera.

Connectivity

Galaxy Note doesn’t have LTE and it comes with Bluetooth v3.0. Only AT&T model has LTE and that too is region specific. S3 has a regional 4G LTE with Bluetooth v4.0.

Battery Life

Note has bigger Li-Ion 2500 mAh with standby time of  960 h (2G) / Up to 820 h (3G) and talk time of 26 h 10 min (2G) / Up to 13 h 30 min (3G) whereas Galaxy S3 has Li-Ion 2100 mAh battery.

Advantages with Samsung Galaxy S3

Galaxy SIII will come with NFC (Near Field Communication) Technology while Note has this technology in only AT&T model.

Like Apple’s Siri, the new Galaxy S3 has S Voice. The voice recognition assistant helps you in searching on the web, taking pictures, setting alarm and many other tasks. You can install some third party apps in Note to get some of these functions but we don’t think that any third-party app can integrate itself as seamlessly as S Voice.

S3 has Smart Stay eye tracking technology. This function uses device Camera to check if you’re looking at the device and keeps the screen lit until you stop looking at it. It can save battery life of your phone and it also helps in avoiding irritation caused by hitting the button again and again to keep screen lit.

Some other worth mentioning features in Galaxy S3 are smart alerts, direct call, social tag, S Beam, AllShare Play, Popup Play, 50GB Dropbox Capacity and Best Photo.

Final Comparison

We can’t really say which one is better because it really depends on your choice. If you want a phone which also has powerful tablet functions and stylus which let you annotate photos, maps, paint and give you to quickly capture and create ideas then Note should be your choice because it has a large screen and it comes with stylus known as S Pen. There are some dedicated apps for S Pen in Galaxy Note which will let you do things mentioned earlier.

But if you’re looking for a powerful phone with rich features and don’t care much about tablet functions then Galaxy S3 should be your choice.
