Electric Skateboard Accelerates and Brakes When Riders Shift Their Weight

Real skateboarders need not apply

The ZBoard is a weight-sensing electric skateboard that functions much like a Segway. When riders lean forward and step on a sensor, that triggers the board to accelerate; when they lean back on the other sensor, the board brakes.

There are regional boards that adapt to different terrain. The San Francisco Special has increased torque to climb hills, and the Santa Monica Special has increased battery capacity for longer range.

The Zboard has a top speed of 17 miles per hour and a range of five to 10 miles. It is available for pre-order for $499, a $100 discount off the retail price. Pre-orders will begin shipping this month.
