A supposed Neil Armstrong‘s 1967 Chevrolet Corvette, as shown in the photo below, recently went on sale at eBay auction, but was not sold after the highest bid did not meet seller’s reserve price.

The bid for the 1967 Chevrolet Corvette which the seller claimed as owned first by astronaut Neil Armstrong, ended at 4:51 p.m. CDT (2151 GMT). Apparently, the eBay auction page for the said sports car had $250,090 as the highest bid after 73 bids but had not yet met the seller’s hidden reserve, with the auction notably focused on the seller’s claim that Neil Armstrong had driven the car rather than its make, model or condition.
“This Corvette was bought by a NASA employee when Mr. Armstrong turned it in and was retained by the owner until I purchased the Corvette from him in February of 2012.” The eBay seller wrote in his auction’s description.
“As can be seen in the pictures, the car has 30+ years of dust and had fender flares crudely added by the owner during it’s time in storage. The only thing that has been done to the car since I purchased it, is to get the motor running where it can be moved about the garage.” The seller added.
Apparently, the seller also noted that the said car had been in a climate controlled environment but has not yet been driven since September of 1981, with the vehicle’s original General Motors “Protect-O-Plate” metal tag displaying the name “N. A. Armstrong” as its original owner.
Various concerns were reportedly raised about the authenticity of the car being auctioned. A book ‘First Man‘, about the life of Neil Armstrong, says that the first Corvette leased to him as an astronaut was damaged in the fire that claimed his house.
