Fisker Automotive has unveiled a prototype of Fisker Atlantic, its latest electric hybrid car at the 2012 New York Auto Show. According to a press release by Fisker Automotive, a design prototype of the Fisker Atlantic was unveiled at a special VIP preview event. As noted in the report, the Fisker Atlantic design prototype is a luxury four-door sporting sedan aimed at young families who want to drive an impactful, high-end four-cylinder gasoline engine electric car.

“We are exceptionally proud of the Atlantic design prototype, and believe we have created another groundbreaking car that looks and will drive like nothing else on the road in this class,” Henrik Fisker, co-founder, Executive Chairman, and Design Director of Fisker Automotive, was quoted at FiskerAutomotive.com.
“Fisker Automotive is transitioning from a start-up automaker to a fully-fledged mainstream car manufacturer and the Atlantic is a crucial milestone in that process.” Fisker Automotive CEO Tom LaSorda said.
Apparently, Fisker Atlantic, which was earlier called Project Nina, uses the latest second generation EVer (Electric Vehicle with extended range) technology, which was said to be offering all the benefits of electric drive while at the same time eliminating the “range anxiety” experienced with an all-electric powertrain.
The Fisker Atlantic, just like the Fisker Karma, is a plug-in series hybrid vehicle that allows drivers to switch manually or automatically between electric and gasoline driving modes; although Fisker did not reveal exact range on electric power alone. Details of availability and price of the Fisker Atlantic have not been released but it was noted that it would have “a much lower price point than the Karma“, and likely similar to an Audi A5 or an upper-end BMW 3.
