After a two year break, the M6 Coupe and Convertible are back! BMW has unveiled the third-generation M6 ahead of its arrival in showrooms this summer. The first model to go on sale will be the 2012 M6 Convertible, the M6 Coupe will arrive in September as the 2013 M6 Coupe.

Both the M6 Coupe and Convertible are powered by the same twin-turbocharged 4.4L V8 as the M5. The V8 packs 560-hp and 500 lb-ft. of torque. According to BMW the V8 generates 10 percent more horsepower and 30 percent more torque than the old V10 engine. Even better, new technology like Brake Energy Regeneration and an Auto Start-Stop function helps the new M6 consume 30 percent less fuel. The V8 is mated to a standard 7-speed double-clutch transmission, although BMW is reportedly considering a manual option. According to BMW the M6 will reach 0-62 mph in 4.2 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. Optional M Carbon-Ceramic brakes, which are being offered for the first time on a BMW M model, have even greater resistance to heat and are also lighter than the standard brakes.
2012 BMW M6 Convertible
The M6 Coupe and Convertible are distinguished from the other 6 Series models with a unique M kidney grille, which bears an “M6” badge – an homage to the first generation M6. The M6 also gets wide air intakes, wider fenders and race inspired flaps. Just like the last generation, the new M6 Coupe gets a carbon fiber roof, thanks to its lighter weight, allows the car’s center of gravity to be lowered. The M6 models ride on standard 19-inch wheels, but 20-inch wheels are optional.
