New Electric Car Ice Speed Record Set by Nurburgring Champion

In September, the Metropolia Electric RaceAbout set the electric car speed record for the famous Nürburgring race track in Germany. This month, the RaceAbout team took on a speed challenge on a very different course: frozen Lake Ukonjärvi in Finland. Average speed over two laps of a kilometer long course: 161.59mph.

The effort by the RaceAbout team, from the Helsinki Metrololia University of Applied Sciences, is actually the first land speed record set by an electric car on ice. Required to use commercially available tires, they went with Finnish brand Nokian, whose tires were also used for the ice speed record set by a gasoline powered car this month, according to Green Car Reports.
