World’s First Gyroscopically Stabilized Electric Motorcycle: Virtually Uncrashable?

What’s being billed as “the world’s first gyroscopically stabilized” electric motorcycle could radically change the nature of riding a cycle. A new commuter vehicle from Lit Motors is a hyper-connected, efficient and safe commuter vehicle with one foot in the automobile world and one foot in the motorcycle world.

The C-1 electric motorcycle is a beautiful machine, but that’s just on the surface. Under that sassy chassis are 40kw in-wheel electric motors, capable of pushing the cycle over 120 MPH, powered by battery packs with a potential 200 mile-per-charge range. The compact size and fully enclosed body are sure to make for an enjoyable commute and an easy-to-park machine, and because of some features you’ll never see in other motorcycles, this bike might be "Virtually Uncrashable".

The C-1 uses electronically controlled gyroscopes under its floor, which generate over 1,300 lb/ft of torque, to keep the vehicle balanced while stopped, and the devices are said to be able to keep the cycle upright, even in the event of a collision.

And if that’s not enough, the makers say that the C-1 is a “rolling smart phone”. Due to its numerous layers of connectivity, you can think of the C-1 as a rolling smart phone. The device will employ H2V, H2C, V2I and V2V connectivity. For example traffic, construction and adverse weather conditions will be transmitted to the vehicle, thus informing both you and the C-1 about the situation and advising different routes.

This exciting motorcycle isn’t on the market yet and the company says we can expect to see the C-1 in show-rooms by the end of 2014.
