World’s tallest living man Sultan Kosen stops growing at 8 feet and 3 inches after treatment.

Sultan Kosen, the world’s tallest man has stopped from growing at a towering height of 8 feet and 3 inches (2.51 meters), after specialists from Charlottesville, Virginia treated him.

Sultan Kosen from Turkey was listed by Guinness World Records as the world’s tallest living man in 2009 with the height of 8 feet and 1 inch (2.47 meters). As noted at Guinness World Records, Kosen, who also hold the record for having the largest hands (11.22 inches) and largest feet (14.4 inches), measured 8 feet 2 inches tall on his next measurement, but was measured 8 feet and 3 inches last February 2011.

Kosen, 29, was said to have a noncancerous tumor on his pituitary gland (located at the base of the brain) causing it to release excessive growth hormone, which caused him to grow that tall, but also threatens his life.

Nevertheless, researchers at the University of Virginia Medical Center, who have developed a new treatment after Kosen paid a visited in 2010 and is being treated since then, say he has finally stopped growing. Dr. Mary Lee Vance, an endocrinologist at the University of Virginia Health System and one of Kosen‘s doctors, noted that he was diagnosed with both giganticism and rare disorder acromegaly, which causes his body to continually produce the growth hormone.

“As he was growing taller and taller, he kept getting sicker and sicker. He had a very aggressive tumor involving the base of his skull and brain that was in a very difficult location to remove,” Dr. Jason Sheehan, a neurosurgeon at the University of Virginia Health System, who also treated Kosen, was quoted in reports.
