Watch daring 104-year-old Scottish woman win back oldest paraglider world record

At 104 years of age, Peggy McAlpine could have been forgiven for accepting defeat after seeing her world record beaten last year. The Scottish great grandmother, who now lives in Cyprus, originally claimed the title for oldest person to paraglide tandem (female) in 2007 after completing a jump at the age of 100 years and one day.

However, her daredevil record was bettered by fellow fearless centenarian Mary Allen Hardison from Utah, USA as part of her 101st birthday celebrations in September last year.

Spurred into donning her safety helmet one more time, Peggy, who has two children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, took to the skies one more time last month, leaping from a 2,400-foot peak in northern Cyprus to reclaim her incredible title.

"I enjoyed every minute of it," she said. "It was better than the last time. I would certainly like to do it again - especially if anyone takes my record." The Sterling-born thrill-seeker said she has "loved heights" since childhood but didn't try extreme sports until the age of 80, when she went bungee jumping at the urging of her grandchildren.

Angela Gokasan, of local paragliding company Highline Air Tours who helped arrange the record attempt, said: 'Peggy completed her second flight with pilot Ozgur Gokasan, who was also her pilot the last time. 'They were gliding above the clouds and landed to a crowd of family, friends and the three witnesses required by the Guinness World Records.

'We are over the moon to have flown her again. The stress was all worth it having seen her and Ozgur's faces after landing. She is such an amazing woman.'
